Overview
A one-day tour covering Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, the Forest Research Institute (FRI), and Robber’s Cave (Guchhupani) is one of the most popular and time-efficient itineraries for exploring the core highlights of Dehradun. These spots blend spirituality, grand colonial architecture, and natural river cave adventures into a single day.
Tapkeshwar Mahadev Mandir – A serene Shiva temple set inside a natural cave where water continuously drips onto the Shivalingam. Historically known as the Drona Cave. Go early to secure close parking and experience a peaceful morning Aarti.
Forest Research Institute (FRI) – A massive, breathtaking Greco-Roman and Colonial brick campus. It houses 6 specialized forestry museums. Very popular for photography, but note that bags and vehicles incur separate nominal parking fees.
Robber’s Cave (Guchhupani)- A 600-meter long natural river cave formation where you wade through knee-deep, chilly mountain water to reach a hidden waterfall. Rent rubber slippers at the gate for ₹10 to protect your feet from sharp river stones.
